Disappointing Daytona for Maine Motorsports

A promising Daytona didn't turn out the way the team had wanted. Jake Poulin was involved in a wreck on lap 3 that took him out of the race and Keith Sherman had fuel pickup issues on the last lap while running in the top 5. Keith wil be running for the championship so he will be back next week at Martinsville, Jake's next race will be a few weeks from now at Lime Rock.

Victory for Maine Motorsports at Martinsville
Maine Motorsports Nr20032013-02-2722-14-39-58_zps92ffa9aa
After a solid 4th place qualifying effort, driver of the #15 Penzoil Chevrolet, Keith Sherman, set out to set the pace on Wednesday evening. 100 laps at Martinsville had potential for an all out slugfest, but turned out to be a fairly clean race. After taking the lead on the first restart of the day on lap 6, by passing Chris Wetz on the outside, Sherman would set sail to lead 17 laps until the 2nd caution waved. After running in the top three he retook the lead once again on lap 46 after race leader Chris Wetz spun in turn two. He would lead a total of 62 laps on the day.

The race defining moment came on lap 82, while restarting in third position as the first car with four fresh tires. Jordan Hyland and Auz Grams remained on the track and started 1-2. Hyland slipped out of the groove and Sherman took advantage, retaking the lead and surviving a G-W-C finish to take the win.

"We had a great race today. The pit crew did their job and kept me in the hunt all day. Had some cautions fall our way and everything just fell into place. Had a great race with Austin there, he was definitely quicker than me once I burned my tires off on the long run. We'll head to South Carolina and try to keep this rolling."

Maine Motors Goes Back to Back in South Carolina
Maine Motorsports Nr20032013-03-0622-51-16-97_zpsc76f66e8

Another wild short track race leads to the #15 Pennzoil machine back in victory lane. After running top 5 most of the night, a late race caution saw Sherman sitting in 3rd place. A decision to take two tires on the ensuing pit stop saw him in the lead on the restart. A great jump on the start kept him ahead of the ensuing trouble when the #5 of Jordan Hyland made contact with the #28 of Ryan Williams, sparking a chain reaction crash. On the next restart, Sherman pulled out ahead once again, this time maintaining a healthy distance between him and the #5. A late caution set up the Green-White-Checker finish, which led to one more wreck on the back straightaway. Setting up the clean run to the finish, and back to back checkered flags.

"You know, we didn't have the fastest car tonight. I couldn't get hooked up in the groove consistently. We had one run going there where me and the 28 were on fresh tires and Hyland was just gapping us. We started to reel him back in. Ryan got by him and then the caution waved. I was scared that two tires would come back to bite me but everything played out in the end. We'll head to SoBo and try and make it three."

Sherman holds off hard charging Stanton to take 3rd win of season.
Maine Motorsports Nr20032013-04-2512-04-47-85_zps159f616e

100 laps at Star Speedway lead to plenty of bent fenders and bent feelings. Aaron Johnson set the pace in practice and with a 3rd place qualifying effort, took to the lead early in the race. After several mid race dust ups, one taking him out of the top 3, Sherman and Chris Wetz battled side by side for several laps, until Wetz spun out of the battle. This lead Sherman to try and set the tempo. He lead until Jeffery Stanton took the lead late in the run. After a late race yellow, the two slammed doors racing off of pit road and Sherman retook the lead, holding off Stanton to take the checkers in the final 20 laps.

"It was not an easy win, that's for damn sure. The way my race started, I would have been happy if I had held the top 5. A little two tire strategy and a little hard charging on pit road got us where we needed to be and we took another one. It's been a pretty damn good season so far, let's keep it going!".
