Baker's season best at Indy boosts confidence:
Indianapolis has been feast or famine for the driver of the #9 Rockwell Tools Chevy SS, but historically he has run well there only to be bit by bad luck with bad finishes. Baker showed some speed by qualifying 3rd and quickly settled into the top 5 early on. As the laps progressed, cautions flew, and pit strategy was all over the board, Baker was caught up in a wreck where he thought he sustained heavy damage. Lucky for him, it was only minor damage and it didn't hurt his car. As a long green flag run progressed, Baker worked his way through the field passing cars from outside the top 10 to inside the top 5. Pit strategy once again paved the way for the end of the race, Baker led a lap or two before pitting, and settled back in 7th. Once again, he worked his way up into the top 5 before another set of green flag pit stops started. This time, however, he pitted with the first group of guys and this turned out to be a good move as a caution would quickly come out. On the final restart, Baker was third and maintained that until the last lap where he hit the wall off of turn 3 and dropped to 5th, his first top 5 of the season. It propelled him towards a potential chase spot and he hopes it starts a chain of good runs here on out.
