Hearing even more rumors about Greenville-Pickens for a possible Truck Series date in 2013(or 2014). All they would need to host a Truck event currently is upgrades to the pit road such as a inside pit wall and 36 pit stalls, Upgrades to catchfencing and of course SAFER(I guess those tests didn't go well, GPS might need them anyway though. ARCA has also announced that they will have a race at Chicagoland Speedway on July 21st next year.

Could be none like Concord -_- Only type of fencing from the exit of Turn 1 to Turn 3 is a small fence a few feet back in the middle of the first part of the dogleg and billboards on the other side of the dogleg.

Piquet will be racing at the Snowball next month for Richie Wauters. The ride was supposed to be for Aric Almirola but had a unexpected death in the family so he would not be able to compete. Dylan Kwasniewski will be racing for Turner Motorsports in K&N East next season.

Guessing Murph will be going to a Holden team of course!
Grant Rowley/Speedcafe.com wrote:
The Kelly Racing team has confirmed that Greg Murphy and Karl Reindler will compete in their last event for the team at the Sydney Telstra 500 in two weeks time.
Murphy and Reindler will make way for two new drivers to join the team that will transform into Nissan Motorsport from next season.
Winton stand-out James Moffat and departing Fujitsu/GRM driver Michael Caruso are the hot tips to join the Nissan factory team.
Murphy has competed with the team for two seasons, racing for the Pepsi Max Crew. His best result with the team came at Bathurst in 2011 where the Kiwi and Allan Simonsen finished third.
His 2012 season has been hamstrung by his back injury that he sustained in the opening event at the Clipsal 500. He missed five events while recovering from surgery.
Reindler has driven for the team this year and has endured a largely disappointing season.
Team owner/driver Rick Kelly thanked the pair for their contribution to the organisation.
Rather than wait until after Homebush to make this announcement, the team wanted to be completely open about the forthcoming change and ensure both drivers have a fitting farewell as they have been outstanding and valued members of our team,” Kelly said.
“In the past three months, the team were required to complete a comprehensive review of all the driver scenarios for 2013. All scenarios included the strong consideration of retaining Greg and Karl, however, for various reasons we were unable to hold them for 2013.
“Greg Murphy’s two year program has been a great boost to the credentials of our young Team and his willingness to sign with us at the end of 2010 was important in our Pepsi Max sponsorship.
“Murph is a real pro who constantly pushes to lift the bar and his experience has been invaluable in the development of many of our technical staff in the past two seasons.
“His back issues and missing four races threw the momentum of the Pepsi Max Crew earlier in the season, and as a team since Murph’s return we haven’t been able to deliver a strong enough package to allow him the opportunity to compete at the front of the field which we all know he is capable of.
“Karl has been a great fit with everyone in the team this year.
“He has a great attitude, is a true team player, keeps himself extremely fit and also has a good feel for the business and marketing side of the sport.
“Karl is coming up to his fourth year in the main game in V8s in 2013 and will be knocking hard on the door as an emerging young talent in the main game V8 series and I am sure will be in demand for the 2013 season.”

Stefan Bartholomaeus/Grant Rowley/Speedcafe.com wrote:

The V8 Supercars Commission is close to finalising its race formats for the 2013 V8 Supercars Championship, with a move to shorter races tipped to be on the cards.

A widespread dislike for the high level of influence that fuel economy has had on races this season is understood to be the key motivator for the new direction.

Although V8 Supercars is keeping its cards close to its chest, as few as six of the 16 events on next year’s calendar are expected to feature in-race refuelling.

Three-race weekends are likely to be in vogue next season, pending final deliberation from the V8 Supercars Commission.

“Like any sport, we’ve tried to look at all rules and regulations, see what works, what doesn’t and make changes where we see fit,” V8 Supercars CEO David Malone told Speedcafe.com of next year’s formats.

“The Commission have been working on the race formats for the last month and a half, and we’re very close to having something locked away. We have a bit more work to do, but they are close.”

One element already decided upon is the removal of the in-car fuel trim adjusters, which were introduced in 2011 to allow drivers to switch between four pre-determined engine maps during races.

The combination of the switches and the mixed tyre format so prevalent on this year’s calendar has seen engine bills skyrocket among the leading teams as motors are leaned to their limits.

“Currently the temptation is there to run the cars too lean and that effects engine life,” TeamVodafone team principal Roland Dane explained to Speedcafe.com.

“The teams with less resources can’t afford to do it and that’s not really fair on them.

“If you’ve got to tune your engine to one map (without the trim switches) that you’ve then got to live with, it’s up to the drivers to manage the economy. In hindsight that’s a better solution.”

Although fuel mileage will still play a role in the championship’s longer, marquee events, the shift of emphasis away from economy will marginally lessen the pressure on V8 Supercars’ technical department to perfectly match the consumption of the new double-overhead cam Nissan and AMG engines to the current Ford and Holden units.

Who?
RACER Magazine wrote:
Hulman & Company announced Tuesday that it has hired veteran business leader and international sports executive Mark D. Miles as its chief executive officer. Miles will take the helm of the umbrella organization for the Hulman group of companies on Dec. 17.

The appointment of Miles, who served as CEO of the ATP mens' professional tennis tour for 15 years, adds extensive experience to the company's management while also freeing up Jeff Belskus, who currently serves as CEO of several Hulman & Company lines of business, to focus his attention primarily on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation and IndyCar.

Miles will lead the overall business direction and management of Hulman & Company, including a key role in the refinement and implementation of the company's long-term strategic plan. Hulman & Company is comprised of Clabber Girl, Georgetown Realty, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, IndyCar, IMS Productions and various other business entities.

"We are pleased to add Mark to the executive leadership at Hulman & Company," said Mari Hulman George, IMS chairman of the board. "The combination of his international sports experience and leadership of large-scale events like the 2012 Super Bowl, along with his diverse experience with public and private corporations, make him an exceptionally positive match for our business. His business acumen, his ability to cultivate and develop partnerships and the extensive network in sports and business he will provide will strengthen all of our business units. His service as a member of the Hulman & Company board of directors has prepared him to contribute to the organization from day one."

Belskus will continue as president of Hulman & Company, president and CEO of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation and interim CEO of IndyCar. He has served as president and CEO of Hulman & Company since October 2011, one of his many senior management roles in Hulman & Company operations over the last 25 years.

"The racing components of our business are very important to our company, and Jeff is uniquely positioned to help lead us into 2013 and beyond as he has complete understanding of our sport and our 2013 plan and an excellent relationship with our key stakeholders," George said. "By allowing Jeff to focus on the racing businesses and significantly less on the other business units, we are clearly aligning our executive management team to move the company forward."

Said Belskus: "We see opportunities to continue the growth of IndyCar, which I view as an exciting challenge. My passion is rooted in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and IndyCar, and I have been energized by the opportunity we have in the short and long term for both organizations."

Belskus added he is looking forward to working with Miles. They have served together on the Hulman & Company board since March.

"Mark and I have known each other for many years and have worked together closely since he joined the Hulman & Company board," Belskus said. "Mark brings a wealth of experience and has a good understanding of the opportunities and challenges that face our business. I believe he will be very helpful in bringing new and successful ideas to the company."

Miles, meanwhile, expressed confidence in Belskus' management of Hulman & Company's motorsports-related businesses.

"Jeff understands racing and has relationships throughout the industry that have developed during his tenure with the company," Miles said. "Allowing him to focus on IMS and IndyCar will greatly benefit Hulman & Company. I look forward to working with Jeff as we implement a long-term strategy for Hulman & Company that positions all our business units for growth."

During Miles' tenure with ATP, the tennis organization posted impressive revenue gains, launched innovative marketing initiatives and expanded its global presence through successful events in Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. Miles also directed the Pan American Games in 1987 and this year's Super Bowl in Indianapolis.

His most recent business career includes six years leading the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership, a consortium of the leading companies in Central Indiana working with the premiere university research institutions to strategically develop economic growth in the region. During this same period, Miles has served on the board of The Pantry, one of the largest independently operated convenience store chains in the country, with more than 1,500 stores in 13 states and annual revenues exceeding $6 billion. He is also a director for City Securities, a diversified financial services corporation based in Indianapolis. Earlier in his career, Miles was executive director of corporate relations for Eli Lilly and Company.

"It is an honor to join Hulman & Company, known for its tradition of success," Miles said. "I'm excited about joining the team and contributing my lifetime learning from international professional sports, large-scale major sports events and business environments. I have worked for companies with global profiles and brands, and I'm happy to continue that on behalf of the Hulman-George family and its significant business interests."

Five Flags Speedway/51 Sports PR wrote:
n June of 1953, Herb Thomas spoiled a dominant effort by Lee Petty to win a race in the series now known as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at a newly-opened Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida.

Now nearly 60 years later, NASCAR racing will be back at Five Flags.

Track officials announced today that the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will make its first-ever trip to the Pensacola half-mile April 12 and 13, 2013. The young up-and-coming NASCAR stars and short track veterans of the K&N Pro Series East will battle at the “Home of the Snowball Derby” in Pensacola for 150 laps as NASCAR racing returns to the Florida Panhandle.

“The debut of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East at Five Flags Speedway is a great way to celebrate our 60th Anniversary in 2013,” said Five Flags Speedway General Manager Tim Bryant. “We have an extremely passionate fan base for short track racing here in the Pensacola area that will really enjoy this series and what it offers. The K&N Pro Series East is a perfect combination of the door-to-door action that our weekly fans expect as well as an influx of drivers, teams and technology of the cars that our fans watch in the Sprint Cup Series every Sunday. We look forward to welcoming NASCAR and the K&N Pro Series East to Pensacola and I’m really excited for this landmark event in April.”

“We are very excited to add Five Flags Speedway to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East schedule,” said George Silbermann, NASCAR vice president of regional and touring series. “The series represents some of NASCAR’s best and brightest young stars, and Five Flags is a tremendous short-track that provides a great venue to showcase their talents.”

The announcement of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East event comes in advance of the 45th Annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway on December 2. The Snowball Derby is widely regarded as the most prestigious short track event in the country as more than 100 Late Model teams will ascend on Pensacola for the event that has been won in the past by NASCAR stars and legends such as Darrell Waltrip, Donnie Allison and Kyle Busch.

Fans attending the Snowball Derby Weekend at Five Flags Speedway will have the opportunity to purchase reserved seating for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East event in the grandstand midway at Five Flags Speedway November 28th through December 2nd.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series is NASCAR’s top developmental series. K&N Pro Series East drivers that have gone on to NASCAR success include former series champions Ricky Craven, Andy Santerre, Ryan Truex, Joey Logano and 2012 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Champion Kyle Larson. Current top-level NASCAR drivers that used the K&N East as a stepping stone in their career include former Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne, Martin Truex, Jr., Ty and Austin Dillon and Ryan Blaney. 2011 Snowball Derby winner Chase Elliott, a Hendrick Motorsports driver, has been a regular in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East in recent seasons.

Further details regarding the April 12 and 13 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East event at Five Flags Speedway will be announced soon.

For more information on Five Flags Speedway, the 45th Annual Snowball Derby and the NASCAR K&N Pro Series Event in April, visit www.fiveflagsspeedway.com or call the Five Flags Speedway track office, 850-944-8400.

Turner Motorsports has announced the signing of Halifax, Virginia native Jeb Burton. Burton has signed a two-year contract with Turner Motorsports to run a full-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) schedule and a limited NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) schedule in 2013 and 2014.

Burton, who made his first Truck Series start at Martinsville Speedway this past March, has a total of five starts in the NCWTS. In those five starts, Burton has recorded one top-10 finish.

"I'm really proud that I can race for Turner Motorsports over the next two years," said the 20-year-old Burton. "This team has had so much success, and I'm happy to have the opportunity to work with such a quality team."

Steve Turner, who has been known to give opportunities to up-and-coming stars, said "I'm really excited that we will have Jeb under the Turner Motorsports umbrella. Race22.com/Langley Austin wrote:
After 12 years of racing on Goodyear rubber, the United Auto Racing Association or UARA-STARS Series as most of you know it will make the change to Hoosiers for the 2013 season and beyond.

With that announced change, there has been a tire change at one of the series biggest supporting tracks, Hickory Motor Speedway. Hickory too will change over to Hoosier rubber for the 2013 season, a change that surprises a lot of people in the racing industry given that the tracks promoter, Kevin Piercy has been the primary provider of Goodyear tires throughout the Carolina’s.

Piercy’s company, MTP Tire will also switch over to Hoosier tires as his company will continue to service both Hickory Motor Speedway and the UARA-STARS Series in 2013 in connection with Freeman Tire and Hoosier Racing South.

“We want to give a special thanks to Scott Junod and the Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Co.,” stated Piercy in a release today. ”It has been a great relationship and they have been a huge supporter of Hickory Motor Speedway and short track racing. At this point we feel that a change in our tire program will allow Hickory Motor Speedway the opportunity to expand our foundation and bring it to the next level.”

Hickory Motor Speedway will be looking forward to working with Jeff Freeman and Hoosier Asphalt South. Tires will be available for purchase at the track beginning Monday, November 26th.

“In an effort to move the UARA forward we felt this change would be in the right direction for the series. ” said Kerry Bodenhamer of the UARA-STARS Series in a press release issued just a short time ago.

The move puts both the UARA-STARS Series and Hickory Motor Speedway on the same tire (Hoosier F45) that the majority of the Late Model Stock Car tracks are already using including Motor Mile Speedway, South Boston Speedway, Langley Speedway, Southern National Motorsports Park, Caraway Speedway and other top tier tracks.

The move will certainly help Hickory Motor Speedway to be able to use their marquee events such as the Bobby Isaac Memorial and the Fall Brawl to draw in more cars from other area tracks that didn’t like competing on Goodyear tires. The UARA-STARS Series also stands to benefit from being able to draw more local cars at each venue given that they won’t have to make as much changes to their cars.

It seems like a win, win for the Late Model Stock Car racing community.

Proponents of night racing and casino gambling at New Hampshire Motor Speedway have made their voices heard. Meanwhile, the opponents are as loud as ever.

According to multiple reports last week, results of a survey conducted by the speedway show that Loudon, N.H., residents are in favor of the installation of lights at the Magic Mile as well as allowing a casino to be built there.

On the topic of lights, the "yes" results were about even when the question was asked two different ways. Regarding the use of lights solely to allow for races to be completed due to rain, approaching darkness or inclement weather, 58.6 percent of respondents were in favor. When asked "Would you support a Saturday night NHMS race to shorten a race weekend's impact on the area?" that number only dipped to 58.1 percent.

NHMS general manager Jerry Gappens said the following to the Concord Monitor:

“I’m just encouraged because it looks like the respondents have responded with a willingness to have an open mind and further dialogue, which is all you can ask."

As has been the trend in other areas - including Western Massachusetts - recently, New Hampshire is considering allowing casino gaming. Governor-elect Maggie Hassan is looking into the idea as a way of boosting revenue and creating jobs.

The result of that question, "Should Loudon consider allowing New Hampshire Motor Speedway to build a casino on (its) property if future state legislation permits it?", came out 50.7 percent in favor, 46.8 percent against.

My esteemed colleague, Lou Modestino of the Brockton Enterprise, pointed out a big reason why the Granite State is suddenly trying to board the casino train: everyone else is doing it.

Wrote Modestino:

"With the new nearby Oxford Black Bear Casino in western Maine and the new casinos and slot parlors on the horizon in nearby Massachusetts, N.H. residents could easily travel out of state for that form of entertainment."

Modestino noted that another sensitive issue - the speedway's desire to have both Interstate 393 and Route 106 widened to make access to and from the track easier - has yet to be discussed. It also has been met with resistance from residents in the affected areas - mainly in Concord.

Anyone who has had the "pleasure" of being in post-race traffic from 106 to 393 to the I-93 interchange in Concord knows how desperately these changes are needed.

Appeasing the "not in my backyard" crowd has been the main stumbling block at the track ever since Bob Bahre unveiled his plans to build it in 1989. While Loudon - the official address of the speedway - seems to be in favor of these recent plans (at least those who responded to the survey), those in Canterbury - a few miles north of NHMS - have been the most vocal opponents since the outset.

Regarding the night racing issue, a concerned Canterbury resident wrote the following to the Monitor:

"The location is, and was in 2008, when Bruton Smith purchased the speedway, a quiet, rural area consisting of homes and farms. Increasing the profits of NHMS and its shareholders does not warrant disturbing the peace of taxpaying residents."

The respondent also quoted the original agreement that no race would be permitted to go on later than 7:30 p.m., something that was not heeded back in July when the Global Rallycross Championship event flirted with darkness.

Lights of a different sort are already drawing visitors to NHMS in the form of its annual "Gift of Lights," in which the speedway is transformed into its own version of Springfield's Bright Nights.

In other news, Todd Bodine has been released from Red Horse Racing.

Hearing the NASCAR Camping World Trucks will have a new look to them as soon as 2014! They have been working with makes to get them more looking like something you would see on the street. http://siriusxmsports.posterous.com/wayne-auton-director-of-ncwts-joined-siriusxm

that's what we have now, aero push gets worse the more downforce a car has, take indycars for example, if anyone has raced those on iRacing you know what I'm talking about

At least they went out with a punch! Sucks that HRT will be most likely dead in several days Sad
F1SA.com wrote:
Drunk, sacked HRT mechanics brawl at factory - A brawl broke out at ailing Formula One team HRT F1's Madrid headquarters after staff returned from Sao Paulo, El Mundo newspaper reports.

The report said the fight involved drunk mechanics who had gone straight from the airport to the team's factory to collect compensation for their redundancies.

"The atmosphere heated up and police had to be called to intervene," said the report.

A member of the failing team's management confirmed: "They began to threaten, push, hit, and because there was a violent situation we did call the police."
