The NASCAR Toyota Series has announced its 2013 race schedule and it will begin with a historic event and end with a new championship format.

In the series’ seventh season under the NASCAR banner, there will be 15 races at eight different tracks including three night races which are special to the drivers, teams and fans.

For the first time the NASCAR Toyota Series will compete at a U.S. facility. The season will get underway under the lights on March 1 at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway during the first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend at the track.

The series will return to Mexico for the season’s second event on March 24 on the half-mile oval at San Luis Potosí.

The second night race of the year will be at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City on April 6 before moving on to the city of Querétaro on April 21.

The third and final night race will be held on May 11 at El Dorado Speedway in Chihuahua. Last October, a capacity crowd was on hand to witness the series’ inaugural date at the high-banked .625-mile concrete oval.

Dates at Aguascalientes on May 26, Puebla on June 16 and Monterrey on June 30 will follow.

The second half of the season begins on July 28 in Querétaro followed by a second trip to the capital of Mexico City on Aug. 11. Later in the month on Aug. 25 the Toyota Series will return to San Luis Potosí. September dates include Puebla and Chihuahua on the 8th and 29th, respectively.

Aguascalientes will host the season’s penultimate event on Oct. 13 with the season finale scheduled for Nov. 10 in Mexico City.

In a new twist, the NASCAR Toyota Series will move to a chase format to determine its champion. The "Desafío" will begin with the August San Luis Potosí race at Autódromo Potosino. In this format, the top eight drivers in points following round 10 in Mexico City are guaranteed a spot to fight for the championship over the final five races. These drivers will have their point totals reset to 1,000 and receive a bonus of three points for each victory over the first 10 races of the year.

Additionally, the two drivers with the most wins following the August event at Mexico City will also be eligible for the chase. These two competitors will begin the"Desafío" with 1,000 points and not gain any bonus points for their previous victories. In the event of a tie, the driver with the most second-place finishes will claim the spot. If necessary, the tiebreaker will continue down to third-place finishes and so on until the deadlock is broken.

The FIA may be close to a SHTF scenario. They are trying to force out Marussia. Marussia didn't go 100% with Bernie's new concorde agreement and as of right now he has not given them a copy to sign. Marussia is building a car and has signed Max Chilton to drive for them. But as of right now bernie is making it hard for them.

Also, with the FIA. Something big is going down on the medical side. The FIA is not renewing the contract of Medical Rescue Director Paul Hartstein. The drivers are all upset with this as they like Hartstein. Harstein also said this "...get some answers, or get my f**king job back, or let the world know what's REALLY going on on the medical side of the FIA."

3 Wide and 1 To Go wrote:
For Southern California racers, it’s been a long 11 month hiatus from one of the premier short tracks in the Nation. After the company that managed the track, Irwindale Speedway LLC, filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy on February 13, 2012, Jim Cohans Team 211 Entertainment group has been working feverishly to bring racing back to Southern California.

For those who were watching the live stream or attended the race this past weekend at Orange Show Stadium, it was more than evident with the big car count that racing in Southern California is not a thing of the past.

Instead the drivers, who made the trek to this historic track, proved that short track racing is far from dead and is something that was very much missed. Not only did the drivers fill the pit area this past weekend, but the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway also had their fair share of exceptionally high car counts throughout the 2012 season with some great racing action on the track.

With its new name, “Irwindale Event Center” CEO Jim Cohan said that, "We're very pleased to announce that oval track racing will return to Irwindale for the 2013 season.” Cohan along with Bob Klein, who has been named the event center's Vice President/Chief Operating Officer, will be working on putting together a schedule and rules package that will be published in the coming months.

There were a few obstacles in the way that kept the group which also includes bringing back Doug Stokes as the Vice President of Communications, from making an announcement concerning the future of the oval track even though the 1/8 mile drag strip has been running since the beginning of the year.

"Our master lease with the property owners, Nu-Way Industries, has been broadened and now includes all forms of racing activities on the 6,500-seat twin oval track. We are now working very hard to put all of the pieces together to be able to run a 2013 racing season," said Cohan.

In an earlier press release it was said that Cohan had already visited and talked with the owners of Kern County Raceway, about the possibility of working together on a rules and schedule package that could accommodate the drivers at both tracks.

Kern County Raceway which is still in the construction phase and has a grand opening date in March of 2013, is working with Irwindale’s newest race director Mike Atkinson to allow racers in a number of divisions to compete fairly at both tracks.

Cohan also added that, "Our company name has the word 'TEAM' in it. We need everyone to understand that name is not an affectation. It's a statement of our commitment to the process of re-building the legacy of Irwindale Speedway."

"We know that we're starting out a couple of laps behind," Cohan candidly admitted. "But we also know that we have the support of a great number of former racers, sponsors, and most importantly, our fans who have stood by waiting for this track to come back on line again. We'll really need everyone's good will and support, and we'll be trying very hard to return the favor by running a facility that always puts the customer first."For Southern California racers, it’s been a long 11 month hiatus from one of the premier short tracks in the Nation. We'll really need everyone's good will and support, and we'll be trying very hard to return the favor by running a facility that always puts the customer first."

Rumor is that Pikes Peak will also be getting an SRL Southwest Tour Race.

Not a rumor now! Smile

SRL Series PR wrote:
The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series is proud to announce the September 29, 2013 race date on the one-mile oval at Pikes Peak International Raceway (PPIR) in Fountain, Colorado.

“This has been four years in the making,” stated the SRL’s Larry Collins. “Our teams have been encouraging us to take the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series to a one-mile oval, and now it’s a reality. This is a major step for the series and one of the most exciting announcements we’ve ever made.”

The Southwest Tour Series, under the NASCAR sanction, competed at the D-shaped one-mile track from 1998 to 2005. Craig Raudman currently holds the one-lap qualifying record of 26.780 seconds. SPEARS Southwest Tour Series standout Jim Pettit II recorded the last ‘tour car’ victory at the track on July 23rd, 2005.

The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series event weekend at PPIR will open on Saturday, September 28th with a full afternoon of practice, with race day on Sunday, September 29th. While the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series will be competing on the PPIR one-mile oval during the weekend, the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) will be competing on the 1.3-mile interior road course providing the spectators a full weekend of racing.

“Everyone involved in bringing this event together share the same goal, to put on the best event possible for both the teams and the spectators,” Collins said. “Our goal, the goal of the track, and the goal of Spears Manufacturing is to make PPIR a major event on our annual schedule. The seating capacity of the raceway is 10,000, and we plan to have 10,000 spectators at the track on race day.” Collins added.

The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series event in September will follow the USAC Silver Crown Series at PPIR on June 29, which are the only two oval track events scheduled at PPIR in 2013.

“Our success at building a full calendar of participant motorsports events, along with the exciting spectator racing series events continue to fuel the popularity of PPIR, the Exhilaration DestinationTM,” PPIR CEO John Molloy said.

Opening in 1997, PPIR has hosted the NASCAR Nationwide, Trucks, Southwest and Midwest Tour Series, the K&N Pro Series, Indy Car, USAC and numerous sports car events. The September 28th and 29th event will be the first race in the history of the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series on a track larger than ½ mile.
