Dr. Don Panoz and Highcroft Racing has said that the new ALMS/Grand-Am Series will combine Le Mans Prototypes, Daytona Prototypes, and Delta Wing.

I seriously do not like where this is headed. It looks like they will kill off LMP1 and merge the LMP2 and DP classes. It looks almost certain that NASCAR does not want their classes to be upstaged and on the board of directors NASCAR/Grand-Am has 4 votes, ALMS has 2. Pretty much every single ALMS prototype owner has said they do not want to race with DPs. Muscle Milk has pretty much said if this doesnt go how they want they are going to the WEC. We know Level 5 will go WEC at any time if things don't go there way. Dyson Sr has stated that he doesn't like the DP Class even though he owns a gen-2 DP.

I'm stoked to see the Trucks schedule next year. I'm guessing Gresham, Mosport, Salem get added.

Stadium Super Trucks PR/NBC Sports PR wrote:
Robby Gordon’s Stadium SUPER Trucks and NBC Sports Group have reached an agreement to televise the 2013 Inaugural Stadium SUPER Trucks Season on NBC and NBC Sports Network. Starting in April of 2013, NBC and NBC Sports Network will televise 12 races (11 domestic and one international).

Capitalizing on what was once known as Mickey Thompson’s Off-Road Racing, Robby Gordon’s Stadium SUPER Trucks will feature high-flying off-road action motorsports fans have been asking for. The entire championship season will be broadcasted on NBC and NBC Sports Network, with the series awarding $500,000 to the Champion driver of Stadium SUPER Trucks.

“It has always been my dream to bring back stadium racing to the masses. I started my career winning a championship in Mickey’s series and now I want to revive his vision and bring back what the motorsports world needs. NBC Sports understands what kind of excitement and value our show will exhibit. This will be extreme wheel-to-wheel, door-to-door, roof-to-dirt racing action for all ages,” said Robby Gordon, President of Stadium SUPER Trucks.

Sucks that all of the races are on tape delay but at least most are only a day behind! Cool they got a deal with NBC though.

I will be over 9000 disappoint if they don't add Toledo. Its in the general area as Mansfield, maybe an hour and a half fo the west. It has a much better infastructure around the track, and already has 20,00 seats compared to Mansfield's 25k. They have plenty of space to add seats too, there are none at all on the back stretch.

Um..... don't they use the back stretch for the pits?(not the main pit, but for hauler parking, both for weekly and ARCA races currently)Racing Discussion Thread - Page 23 Tolaerial07

Update on US TV coverage for this years Bathurst 1000. Tape delay coverage scheduled for October 14th at 11PM ET and Surfers is a nope as well. Although, i can understand no coverage of Surfers with the Monster Energy Cup Motocross event at the same time. As that contract was signed a while ago. Really stupid that they aren't showing it live this year. The only other race i could see SPEED covering live is Abu Dhabi, as it is a support race to F1 this season with either Aussie or the current SPEED F1 commentary but i really doubt that.....

Deccan Herald wrote:
The FIA GT1 Sports Car Championship, which was scheduled to be held at the Buddh International Circuit in December, has been called off after the promoters of the event, Stephane Ratel Organisation (SRO), cancelled the season finale citing economic gloom in Europe.

Askari Zaidi, vice-president of corporate communication at Jaypee Group, said that the race scheduled for December 2 will not take place this year, as Ratel (CEO of SRO) has written to the international automobile federation, FIA, asking them to cancel the event.

“It has been communicated to FIA by the promoters SRO Motorsports Group to cancel the event citing economic slowdown in Europe,” Zaidi said on Monday on the sidelines of the launch of the new MRF Formula 2000 Car and the MRF Challenge 2012 series.

“GT1 was planned but the promoters backed out due to financial problem. Europe is going through an economic crisis. The promoters felt that they would not be able to sustain the cost. It was put in the calendar also but it is unlikely that the race will happen this year. We are hopeful things will be worked out in 2013,” added Zaidi.

Due to the financial crisis, SRO had cancelled the two rounds in China at the Beijing Goldenport circuit in August and Ordos in September and pruned the 10-round series to eight. The series started with a car 22-car grid in 2010 and was reduced to 18 in the subsequent year. Indian racer Armaan Ebrahim had signed a contract to race in the final three races of the FIA GT1 World Championship

V8 Supercars will today announce that luxury German car maker Mercedes-Benz is set to join Holden, Ford and Nissan on its 2013 grid.

Orchestrated by Australian GT Championship squad Erebus Racing, the deal will see existing Ford outfit Stone Brothers Racing utilise Mercedes engines and bodywork through the company’s AMG Customer Sports department.

Owned by property tycoon Betty Klimenko, Erebus is understood to have been working on the deal with AMG since early this year.

Although Mercedes-Benz Australia previously made public its disapproval of such a program, it is expected that today’s announcement in Melbourne will come with the blessing of the marque’s local arm.

Its V8 Supercars entry is expected to be based on an updated Mercedes E-Class sedan, not scheduled to be unveiled until the Detroit Auto Show in January.

The news ensures the end of SBR’s 15-year association with Ford, in which time it has won three V8 Supercars Championships (2003-2005) and a single Bathurst 1000 (1998).

Current SBR sponsors IRWIN Tools and SP Tools and drivers Lee Holdsworth, Shane van Gisbergen and Tim Slade have already been locked in by the team for next year.

More details of the new program are set to be revealed at 1300 local time.

Development of the new chassis "SF14 " will focus on going back to the three basics of formula cars: corneringspeed, braking and improving the car’s overall efficiency by achieving an ideal balance between performance and car safety.

The new car should have its first ‘shake down’ test in mid 2013.

Furniture Row Racing wrote:
Furniture Row Racing announced today that Kurt Busch has been hired to drive the team’s No. 78 Chevrolet during the 2013 Sprint Cup season.

Busch, a former NASCAR Cup champion, will replace Regan Smith, who joined Furniture Row Racing at the beginning of the 2009 season.

“Though we have made strides as a resourceful single-car Sprint Cup team, we are not where we want to be, which led us to the difficult decision of making a driver change as we move forward,” said Furniture Row Racing's general manager Joe Garone. “Kurt’s exceptional driving talent has the capacity to take a team to another level. We look forward to having Kurt join our Denver-based organization and feel his racing experience will play an important role as we plan ahead to 2013.”

Garone added, “As our team driver the past four years, Regan has represented Furniture Row Racing with both class and competitiveness. His win at Darlington in 2011 – the first for Furniture Row Racing – will be a memory forever etched in our organization’s history. He is a friend, and will always be a friend of Furniture Row Racing. We wish him all the best.”

Busch, a 34 year-old native of Las Vegas, has been a full time driver in the Sprint Cup Series since 2001. He has 427 Cup starts and has scored 24 wins, 89 top-fives, 171 top-10s and 15 poles. He has qualified for the Chase six times in the past nine years and won the 2004 inaugural Chase season championship in only his third full season in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series.

“Furniture Row Racing has the commitment, talent and resources to compete at a high level in the Sprint Cup Series,” said Busch. "I have watched with admiration on how this team has grown over the years and that is why I am excited about the opportunity as I eagerly look forward to a new chapter in my racing career."

Since the beginning of the 2012 season, Busch has driven the No. 51 Chevrolet for Phoenix Racing. His previous two teams in the Sprint Cup Series were at Penske Racing and Roush Fenway Racing.

Motorsports Magazine/Gordon Kirby wrote:
“We’ve heard something has been signed with another tyre company,” Speyer told us. “I don’t know that for a fact, but if that’s the case it really makes it uncertain of where we’re going and may preclude us. But I don’t have all the facts.

I want to stress that we want to extend our relationship with IndyCar. A couple of years ago we went through a period when we were trying to adjust our investment, but that’s all behind us. Right now, we want to very much continue. Since May of last year we’ve been telling IndyCar that we’d like to extend our relationship, which goes through 2014, through as far as 2020. We wanted to make a long term extension that would give both of us stability.

“But it’s not at all certain that we’ll get an extension. We’re very deeply concerned about that and there may be little more that we can do from our side. It does appear that IndyCar wants to go in another direction for tyres. That’s become clear to us. Even though we thought they wanted to extend with us, all of a sudden we learned that they want to go in a different direction. It’s clear to us the current IndyCar management is not interested in working with us.”

Speyer said Bridgestone/Firestone has confidence that IndyCar can rebuild its flagging crowds and television ratings. “We see upside potential to IndyCar,” Speyer emphasised. “We see some growth possibilities and we don’t want to do anything that devalues that. We want to continue to promote it to make it bigger for ourselves and IndyCar. It’s in our best interests to grow that. The sport has had its ups and downs over history and were hoping it can rise up again. The product is really good and we believe in it.”

Over the years Firestone has developed strong domestic TV and print media advertising campaigns featuring Indy car racing. Speyer said the company has plans to expand on that theme if IndyCar agreed to its proposed contract extension through 2020.

“Firestone has been supporting Indy car racing for a hundred years,” Speyer remarked. “Harvey Firestone was there at the start and over the years Firestone has promoted the sport in the major national media of the times. The history makes it a natural for the Firestone brand. It’s a very good fit for the Firestone brand and we’ve done a lot of marketing and TV advertising. We’ve worked long and hard and poured a ton of blood, sweat and tears and money into the sport and to be told they want to do something else is hard to swallow.

“So it’s a sticky wicket right now. We want to stay. We’ve got certain rights and we want to stay. This new direction caught us by surprise. We had no idea it was coming.”

Speyer said the vast majority of drivers and teams have expressed to him their wish that Bridgestone/Firestone continue on a longterm basis as IndyCar’s tyre supplier. “We believe based on what we continue to hear that the drivers and owners would like to see us stay. There certainly is no undercurrent of people wanting to kick us out. They want us to stay very much. We’ve got the support of the drivers and teams. Even some of the fans are behind us. We don’t feel like we’ve done anything wrong.

“We’re very proud of the relationship we have with 99 per cent of the IndyCar community and the support from the team owners and drivers is just outstanding. They very much support us and want us to continue and that makes it almost doubly hard to swallow. They have been unbelievable in their support of us and we think it’s an earned position.”

Michael Andretti’s team won its fourth IndyCar championship and first with Ryan Hunter-Reay this year. Andretti hopes to field four cars in next year’s IndyCar series plus a fifth car at Indianapolis. Michael said he hopes IndyCar will see the light and extend its agreement with Firestone.

“Firestone has been such a great supporter of IndyCar racing,” Andretti said. “I don’t know all the facts but it sounds like they’re not being treated like the way they should be treated. It’s a little disappointing. The biggest thing with Firestone is you know you have a safe product. Tyres are really important, especially on the superspeedways so it’s not a lottery where you know one or two tyres are going to blow up. With Firestone, you don’t have that worry and that really puts your mind at ease as a driver and a team owner.

“That’s the biggest thing Firestone brings to the table and they’ve done a fantastic job that way. If IndyCar is getting somebody else I’m just hoping that it’s going to be a quality product. If not, it could be disastrous. It could be very expensive and very dangerous. We don’t want our talent getting hurt.”

On Monday morning we asked IndyCar’s CEO Randy Bernard for his view of this matter, but by the end of the day he had not replied to our request for a comment.
