Grand-Am at the Kansas Speedway road course? Haaaaaaa.

Interesting to see no Montreal, hopefully that doesn't mean bad news for Nationwide there.

The most popular motorsports series in Mexico will make its U.S. debut next season at Phoenix International Raceway.

The NASCAR Toyota Series will run at Phoenix on March 1 in conjunction with the Sprint Cup, Nationwide and K&N West Series. The race will be the 2013 season opener for the series, which runs Mexican V8 stock cars.

George Silbermann, NASCAR vice president of regional and touring series, said the race further develops a vision by chairman Brian France to offer racing that appeals to U.S. Latinos. NASCAR took its second-tier Nationwide Series to Mexico for four races from 2005-08.

"Mexico has a long and rich motorsports heritage but not necessarily in stock car racing," Silbermann said Monday. "The whole Mexican motorsports culture has followed either open-wheel racing or sports car racing. Brian made it very clear that a strategic goal of his was to reach a growing fan base and connect with Mexican-American fans here in the states. It was a seed that was planted in 2005 and it has now grown into a tree."

NASCAR and PIR officials scheduled a Tuesday news conference in Phoenix. The event will be a 75-lap race with a scheduled break after 50 laps for pit stops.

The series was launched in 2004 as the "Desafío Corona." NASCAR sanctioned it in 2007, and it was called the NASCAR Corona Series. It became the NASCAR Toyota Series this year, and has run 125 races, all in Mexico.

Bryan Sperber, president of PIR, said he jumped
at the opportunity to host the first series race in the U.S. and the demographics of his track's fan base made it a natural fit.

"I look at this as a real opportunity for sports to bring people together," Sperber said. "It's no secret in terms of NASCAR that we want to broaden our consumer base and reach the Latino market. NASCAR Mexico allows us to reach out potentially to new race fans but also give exposure to this series and its drivers."

It's welcome exposure for 20-year-old points leader Daniel Suarez, who has relocated to Charlotte, N.C., in an attempt to climb through the NASCAR ranks.

Suarez has been identified as part of the NASCAR's Next 9—a group of nine drivers who are under 21 and represent the next wave of young talent. He's on track to become the youngest champion in series history, and won his first race in May at Mexico City.

Suarez said the chance to run at the same track on the same weekend as the premiere Sprint Cup Series gives Mexican drivers an opening to showcase their talent to prospective owners and sponsors.

"People can see what is going on in Mexico," he said. "There are fans who know nothing at all about racing in Mexico. This series is the best in Mexico, the racing is the best. We have more fans, the best drivers, the best sponsors and the chance to race in America is a very big first step."

The race at PIR is a one-year agreement, per NASCAR guidelines. But Silbermann said it's part of a long-term plan for NASCAR.

"This is an important race for making the connection on both sides of the border," he said. "From a business standpoint, a lot of the series sponsors and partners see the value of a race in the U.S., and everyone sees the value in building the sport among Spanish speaking audiences. We believe the race will shine a spotlight and be a pleasant eye-opener for fans when they see the high caliber of talent in that series."

he showpiece Clipsal 500 dates have been announced with Adelaide’s award-winning motorsport weekend running from February 28 until March 3 next year.

Australia’s hugely popular motor racing event has been running since 1999 and will take on even more impetus in 2013 as it will signify the debut meeting for the Car Of The Future specifications.

It will be the first competitive meeting for the new Nissan and AMG (Mercedes-Benz) which will join incumbents Holden and Ford on the grid for the most comprehensive overall of the touring car series since it moved away from Group A and went solely with the big two Australian car makers in 1993.

Adelaide organisers have also announced revamped viewing options for fans with a number of what are called ‘al fresco’ facilities combining dedicated food and beverage outlets, TV monitors, bleacher seating arrangements and cafe areas to be added to the precinct.

“You simply can’t overstate the importance of the 2013 event and the fact that Adelaide and South Australia has been selected to host the launch of this landmark progression in the sport,” Clipsal 500 chief executive Mark Warren commented.

Warren claims the 2013 edition of the Adelaide street race is by far and away the most significant in the history of the race in the South Australian capital, notwithstanding the monumentally successful maiden year in 1999.

“Our event next year as Round 1 of the 2013 Championship will be among the most significant ever in the long history of Australian motorsport with the introduction of the new breed of Car Of The Future specification,” Warren said.

Among the revamped facilities at the event are the infamous turn 8 (Wakefield Road/DeQuetteville Terrace) where the traditional grandstand-style seating will be replaced and the turn one Senna chicane.

The move comes in response to direct customer feedback and extensive post-event research where fans have expressed a desire to enjoy the race live in a casual and more flexible area.

Patrons will be able to sit in bleachers, move to cafe umbrella covered tables and have access to food and beverage outlets.

Warren said his organisation has also made a decision to offer for the first time a 20 per cent student discount on all trackside tickets and in the section L of the pit straight stand.
Hmmmm.....

Here is a master spoiler of all of the 2013 schedules/confirmed dates as of 10/1/2012 that i made when boredom hit

James Davison will make his stock car debut this weekend, competing in a Late Model Stock car race this Saturday night.

Davison, the younger cousin of V8 Supercars drivers Alex and Will Davison, will drive for Mike Yeakle Racing at Myrtle Beach Speedway, a half mile oval in South Carolina.

Yeakle is the crew chief on the Corvette GT that Davison drove at Indianapolis and Watkins Glen earlier this year, and the pair have taken their working relationship to the next level.

It will not be Davison’s first race on an oval, though. He competed in the 2009 Indy Lights Series, finishing second overall.

“I am most excited about this opportunity,” Davison told Speedcafe.com.

“Racing on ovals in Indy Lights, I most enjoyed the Milwaukee Mile as it was the one oval you had to lift in the turns and drive the car on edge all the way through.

“Mytle Beach will be much like this so I am really looking forward it. I have an hour practice before I go racing, I feel if we unload with a decent balance a good result can be achieved on debut.”

Bill Freehling/Fredericksburg.com wrote:
The owner of a stock-car and drag-racing facility near Manassas plans to relocate the complex to a 160-acre site just off Interstate 95 in Thornburg.
Steve Britt, principal owner of the Old Dominion Speedway, is under contract to purchase land just north of Mudd Tavern Road from a man who lives outside the Fredericksburg area. The sale is contingent on various government approvals, including a rezoning and special-use permit from Spotsylvania County.
The new facility will be called the Dominion Raceway and will be easily visible from I–95. The main entrance will be off Mudd Tavern Road near the northbound ramp onto 95.
Britt wants to create a racing-focused entertainment complex that could also be used year-round for festivals, karting, collector car auctions, drive-in movies and other special events. Though he hasn’t spoken with a local group pursuing a minor league baseball stadium, he thinks that could be part of it. Old Dominion has been in its current site in Manassas for more than 60 years, but is now hemmed in by residential development. That has led to frequent noise complaints from neighbors, which convinced Britt to search for new locations along 95 between Stafford County and Richmond.
He has spent much of the past two years looking at sites, including some in both Stafford and Spotsylvania counties. He said he ultimately selected the Thornburg property for a variety of reasons, foremost among them the interstate and a lack of dense residential development nearby.
The interstate provides easy access to many thousands of race fans and high visibility to passersby, and generates a lot of noise of its own. The site is also bordered by the Po River and a more than 400-acre wooded property that is under conservation easement.
The land is in an area targeted for commercial growth and already has nearby hotels. And it’s reasonably close to Lake Anna.
The centerpiece of the planned Dominion Raceway is an oval track that will be four-tenths of a mile and attract up-and-coming racers looking to advance to the NASCAR ranks.
An adjacent grandstand will seat 3,500 people. There will be a three-level building featuring office space for Dominion employees, a food and retail area, and suites that companies or individuals can lease.
Britt plans to sell naming rights to the complex and other corporate sponsorships. He wants to make the facility as interactive as possible for fans and plans to include a Jumbotron screen.
The complex will also have a drag-racing strip, and a two-mile road course that auto enthusiasts could use. There will be a large area for parking and festivals.
Near the entrance will be pad sites for commercial uses such as restaurants, gas stations and automotive dealerships.
Britt estimates it will cost $10 million to $12 million to buy the land, develop the site and build the racing complex. He will have partners in the development and is interested in talking to investors.
About 15 people would work at the Dominion Raceway full-time, and another 60 to 100 people would staff events. Britt isn’t asking for public incentives, but has requested that Spotsylvania officials expedite the approval process.
Last week he was in front of Spotsylvania’s Economic Development Authority in closed session to discuss the project. Britt’s attorney, Charlie Payne of the Hirschler Fleischer law firm, plans to file the rezoning application in a month.
A quick approval would allow Britt to open the facility in time for the 2014 racing season. He is under contract to sell the 40 acres where the Old Dominion Speedway is currently located to a home-builder this coming April and wants to start developing the Spotsylvania facility soon thereafter. The typical season runs March through October.
Britt says he won’t pursue another location for his raceway if the Thornburg site doesn’t secure the various government approvals. He’s looked up and down the 95 corridor and thinks he has found the perfect spot.
“It’s as good as it gets,” Britt said of the site. “This is where it needs to be.”
Sucks that ODS is getting closed, one of the tracks i wanted to race on once. At least they are replacing it, with a new track!

David Caraviello/NASCAR.com wrote:
NASCAR's Nationwide Series won't return to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal next season, but the sanctioning body won't rule out the possibility of another national-level event in Canada for 2013.
Francois Dumontier, promoter of the NASCAR event on the city-owned road course in Montreal, announced Friday that the popular Nationwide race held there since 2007 would not be back next season. He cited financial reasons for the decision. Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR's senior vice president for racing operations, said the league is hoping to fill that gap with another national-series race in Canada next year, most likely a Camping World Truck Series event. "Certainly we want to be in Canada in some capacity, either Trucks or Nationwide next year," O'Donnell said by telephone Friday. "That's a hugely important market to us. We've got some work to do certainly to make that happen. But we've got no complaints certainly about the fan base that turns out for the event."

O'Donnell called a potential Truck Series event in Canada "fairly realistic" for next season, although he declined to name the potential venue. "We've got a good shot at that," he added. "Nationwide, a much longer shot. You may be looking at 2014 for that. But I feel fairly good about our ability to bring a Truck event up to Canada in 2013."
Justin Allgaier won the Nationwide event in Montreal this past August, and O'Donnell said NASCAR officials came out of that race feeling good about plans for 2013. A conference call with the promotion group, Dumontier's Octane Management, the Monday after the race did nothing to deter that belief. O'Donnell said NASCAR later received an email from Octane asking that the sanctioning fee be altered, and that the race -- which is on the same weekend as the Sprint Cup event in Michigan -- be run at 9 a.m. ET on a Sunday rather than its usual Saturday afternoon slot.
"We kind of said, look, this doesn't make sense," O'Donnell said. "We're very comfortable when the race is on a Saturday. We understand Sunday is the preferred day for an event in Canada, but we're not able to get there with the Cup event in Michigan, and 9 a.m. certainly didn't work for us."
Dumontier's response was that he had no interest in hosting the event. "It was a very difficult decision to make," he said in a statement. "Year after year, with great enthusiasm, our team has invested itself, body and soul, in order to make a success of this NASCAR weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. But under the previous management and our own in 2012, the event remained non-profitable, therefore we had to be realistic and conclude that the NASCAR main event on our weekend program doesn't have the kind of appeal that could generate the requested revenues."
O'Donnell praised the enthusiasm Canadian fans have shown for NASCAR, a large reason the sanctioning body wants to keep a national event in the country. "There have certainly been challenges with the promoter in Montreal, but nothing that we haven't gotten through, all along knowing it was important for us to be in Canada in some capacity," he said. "We're late in the game. We've certainly talked to some other promoters knowing this had the possibility of coming down when it did. And we're exploring every avenue up in Canada to try and get a national-series event up there."
O'Donnell added that he expects the same amount of races on the 2013 Nationwide slate as there are this year, given the interest shown in Montreal's date. And he wouldn't rule out the possibility of NASCAR returning to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in the future.
"I would never say never," he said. "I think the fans are great. I think the unique aspect of that venue is, it's not owned by the promoter. It's a lease agreement, so you never know who's promoting the event and what interest might be there. The fans certainly turned out, we love the event, and we'd certainly never rule it out in the future."

V8 Supercars has ruled out any chance of a new race in Asia being added to the 2013 Championship calendar.

Several venues in Asia have been put forward as possible targets to join V8s including Singapore and Indonesia.

Joining the list of prospective new venues is Macau which has been the subject of widespread talk through the sport.

The Macau street circuit, which hosts the annual Formula 3 race and a round of the World Touring Car Championship, has firmed as the most likely candidate for V8s to find a new home.

But outgoing V8 Supercars executive chairman Tony Cochrane has categorically dismissed any chance of an Asian race for 2013.

“There was a slim chance we were going to get an Asian date up for next year,” Cochrane told Speedcafe.com.

“Well the talk in the marketplace is journos (being) writing about the us going to Mexico and everybody assumes it’s correct.

“Well it’s not. We’ve got a number of foreign destinations now seriously working with us on a date.”

Cochrane did confirm that the three international races next year would be Abu Dhabi, Texas and New Zealand.

The new Circuit Of The Americas circuit at Austin recently confirmed the date of the V8 Supercars round which will be conveniently placed a week before the famed Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte from May 17-19.

“Texas announced the date when it benefitted and suited them,” Cochrane commented.

“Personally we would have preferred it to be announced a month or two earlier but having said that it’s still being announced over six months out.”

“It’s a great date for Australians because it gives them a great package.

“So they can do our weekend and then the following weekend they can double up and do the Indy 500 or the Charlotte race and have 10 days off.”

Hearing that Greg Ritter will replace Alex Premat at Gold Coast next week in V8's. Premat will be back for the next race weekend after that in Abu Dhabi.

SRL PR/SPEED51.com wrote:
The management of the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series proudly announced today a new division that will compete under the SRL banner, in 2013, the SRL will organize, officiate and sanction the “SRL S2 Tour Series”. The ‘S2’ is a full-size 108-inch wheelbase, tubular chassis stock car, utilizing a 350 hp GM crate motor, with a single manufacturer producing the chassis, with spec components.

“Our flagship is the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series, but we see the S2 division as a great transition for drivers coming out of the Legends or other divisions with plans to move up to our Tour Car series in the future,” stated the SRL’s Larry Collins. “Another key is the fact that the S2 car is all spec, with no room for costs escalating with the car itself, including the motor which is a steel headed GM crate motor which must remained sealed from the factory.”

The new “SRL S2 Tour Series” will follow the same schedule of the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series, competing at the same tracks on the same race weekends.

“We’re going to make the “SRL S2 Tour Series” an important part of the future of the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series. We see the S2 series as a place that drivers can gain experience in a full size car and ready them to graduate into the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series. The S2 series teams will have the opportunity to become familiar with the SRL officials, their policies and procedures and get to know and learn from the Tour teams and drivers,” Collins added. “There needs to be a logical, cost effective progression through the short track ranks, and we feel this is a good fit. The S2 car has one supplier, one engine, and very little maintenance. The car is limited on set up options, so you need little or no experience to get the car set up right. We will use the Hoosier 970 which should last three races per set.”

Ryan Cansdale, who is currently leading the ‘2012 SRL Legends Tour’ championship, already has plans to make the transition from the Legends to the S2 Series.

“We’ve ran the Legends car all over the nation for the past two seasons, and we feel this new series will be a great fit for Ryan to gain the experience he needs before making the jump to the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series.” stated Ryan’s Dad, Marc Cansdale.

Introduced in 2009, the S2 car was created to allow a young driver moving up to have an opportunity to gain experience in a full-size car, at the same time allowing more experienced drivers the opportunity to compete in a more affordable race car. The concept behind the S2 car is to use the most economical parts and establish rules that keep the cost down. The idea is to offer a full size racecar with a lot of the same ideas that has made legend cars successful nation wide.

SRL S2 Tour Series Car Features:

• BODY – Five Star S2 body with rear wing and plastic nose, tail, fenders and quarter panels for durability.
• CHASSIS - Fully fabricated tubular spec chassis built with larger drivers area for increased safety.

• SHOCKS - Sealed spec shocks.
• ENGINE - A 350 horsepower iron head GM factory sealed crate engine.
• CARBURETOR - A stock "out of the box" Holley 4 barrel. No touch part.

• TRANSMISSION - A sealed 3 speed OEM transmission with steel bell housing.

Looking at Twitter, Buxton and Varsha had no idea until we did. Looks like NBC Sports will also be picking up most of the races with a few being on NBC... great time to have shitty DISH.
