Spencer Massey has been "re-hired" by DSR just months after being fired
Don Schumacher announced today that Don Schumacher Racing with financial backing from his Schumacher Electric Corp. will start the 2013 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series with the same number of teams he ended with last year, including the third-ranked Top Fuel team.
In addition to reigning world champion Antron Brown and the Matco Tools Top Fuel team and Tony Schumacher and the U.S. Army team, which finished seven points behind Brown last season, the third team will be led by crew chiefs Todd Okuhara and Phil Shuler with driver Spencer Massey when the season begins Feb. 14-17 with the NHRA Winternationals at Pomona, Calif.
The dragster that finished the past season ranked third in points with four event titles, will carry the banner of Battery eXtender Powered by Schumacher, the next-generation battery charger that provides advanced charging technology and cutting-edge design. (More information below.)
The status of DSR’s third-ranked team from last year was left in limbo for 2013 when longtime NHRA and DSR sponsor FRAM/Prestone opted last summer to not continue motorsports sponsorships upon the conclusion of the 2012 season.
“I committed last summer to running this team in 2013 after Honeywell sold the FRAM/Prestone business to an investor and the decision of the new owner was to eliminate motorsports sponsorship,” Schumacher said. “I committed to run that car in 2013, and will do what I committed to doing. And I want to keep that team together because it has contended for the championship down to the last two races the past two years”
Schumacher said Schumacher Electric will fully fund the Don Schumacher Racing team while he continues to search for another major sponsor.
“Were we not to field that team it also would have cost about 10 guys their jobs, and I didn’t want that to happen,” said Schumacher, whose teams have won 11 NHRA world championships and 196 NHRA event titles.
Although the team did not join the other six DSR teams at the Florida test sessions last month, Okuhara and Shuler tested the dragster last December and it proved to be in midseason form with a best run of 3.75 seconds at 325 mph.
Massey, 30, will compete in his fourth full-time professional season and third straight with DSR. At the end of the last season, Schumacher and Massey decided in late November to go separate ways at a time when adequate funding had not been secured.

Buckeye Cable System, the Toledo-area cable television provider, will once again air a total of ten (10) Flat Rock and Toledo Speedway events from the 2013 track schedules as part of the popular "Sunday Night at the Races" programming this season on the Buckeye Cable Sports Network (BCSN). The telecasts are slated for the 9 p.m. time slot.
The 10 race televised slate will include the April 20th 7-Up 150, a "combo event" featuring the ARCA/CRA Super Series and the ARCA Midwest Tour. That event will be the first ever event that will be co-sanctioned by the two groups. The two groups are also scheduled to co-sanction an event at Madison International Speedway in Madison, Wisconsin on August 11th. The 7-Up 150 will be a point's event for both series and is expected to draw a huge car count. The event will have an increased purse and a possible second feature for cars not making the 150 lap main event.
The 2013 season for the ARCA Midwest Tour kicks off at Toledo Speedway on Friday and Saturday, April 19th & 20th. Visitarcamidwesttour.com for the full 2013 schedule

In other IndyCar news, Mugello Circuit has a event listed for IndyCar on 9/15/2013. Hearing it was a mistake on the website though and Curt Cavin has denied it. I think it is still possible though(why would they put it on the website in the first place ). Also hearing rumors about Fiat working with Judd on a motor deal.

In a truly baffling move, Katherine Legge has been replaced by Sebastien Saavedra in the Dragon Racing car sponsored by TrueCar. TrueCar has been doing this "women emporered" program for over the past year. http://www.truecarracingteam.com/ So they go ahead and replace her without telling her, judging by her reaction on Twitter. Its funny, becuase she did okay once they got her Chevy engines, although she missed a few races and couldn't get any consistency.

NASCAR has suspended Jeremy Clements indefinitely for saying something "intolerable and insensitive remark".
Speculation has it he mention NASCAR rigging the pole to let Danica win, or he bashed the Daytona 500 saying something along the lines it was the most boring race he's ever seen and the Nwide race put on a way better show.
