- Spraker Racing Enterprises is pleased to announce that Mountain Dew will proudly be on board the 08 Ford Fusion driven by Martinsville, Virginia’s Clay Campbell in selected ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards events in 2013.
“We are extremely proud to have the Mountain Dew brand on board with Clay at the wheel of our cars in 2013,” Jeff Spraker said.
The team’s first outing for 2013 will be the 50th annual Lucas Oil 200 presented by MAVTV American Real at Daytona Int’l Speedway.
“Clay ran Talladega with us last year and did a great job.”
The team tested at Daytona in December, ending up sixth fastest overall among the 60-plus drivers that were there. The Spraker Racing Roush-Yates powered Fusion was the fastest Ford at the test.
“Mountain Dew is proud to sponsor Clay Campbell in the number 08 Spraker Racing Ford Fusion for 2013 season,” said Greg Sterling, Vice President of field marketing for Pepsico.
“It is a great fit and partnership for the Dew Brand. This marks our second year with Clay and Spraker Racing and we are thrilled to be a part of their racing family. We look forward to an exciting racing season and seeing the Dew car in victory lane.”
Campbell, when he’s not strapped inside a racecar, is the President of Martinsville Speedway.
“Daytona is a very prestigious speedway and I look forward to have Mountain Dew join us for my first outing there,” Campbell said. “We have a great sponsor with a strong team of experience. We are looking forward to the opportunity to run up front. Daytona is very important to Jeff, and I and we want nothing more than to have a shot at a win.”
The Lucas Oil 200 presented by MAVTV American Real will get the green flag on February 16th and will be televised live on SPEED. The race will precede the same-night NASCAR Sprint Unlimited.

He has been doing some Speedway/Dirt Track Racing, Drifting and Rallying as of later in the offseason but there are several rumors flying around that he might race in the NZ V8 Supertourers or possibly in one of the Tekno Autosport rides in V8 Supercars(not sure how as i think he has a no compete deal for a year with Erebus/SBR) in a full time or endurance only ride.

- V8SC Press Release wrote:
- V8 Supercars and Abu Dhabi Motorsport Management are exploring the potential for a new date for 2014 after it was announced that an event at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi this year had been sidelined.
V8 Supercars raced as the only support category to Formula One at the spectacular Yas Marina Circuit last November; however, participation at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is subject to the approval of the Formula One entities.
V8 Supercars announced late last year its dates for 2013, which included the Formula 1™ Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The FOM advisory, however, means there is no space for V8 Supercars this year; and it is too late to find an alternative based on the standing calendar, and the Yas Marina Circuit schedule.
“V8 Supercars have been absolutely amazing in the three years we’ve worked with them building a fanbase for the sport locally and in the Region,” Yas Marina Circuit CEO Richard Cregan said today. “As one of the most exciting motorsport categories in the world we hope to see them back at Yas Marina Circuit soon.”
V8 Supercars CEO David Malone said the category understands the decision of FOM based on its calendar requirements for the GP2 and GP3 categories. The V8 Supercars Board and all teams have been advised and are comfortable with the decision for 2013.
It means the will have more time to recover and prepare for the Phillip Island 400 in November which now follows the last of the endurance season, the Armor All Gold Coast 600.
“It has always been clear that FOM ultimately decides, or approves, ‘support’ categories that run in conjunction with Formula One,” Mr. Malone said.
“We were acutely aware of this when we announced the 2013 calendar, with FOM then making this decision in. We thoroughly enjoy competing alongside Formula One and are absolutely comfortable with this news.
“There are contingencies in place and we will discuss the options, which may include racing on an alternate date to Formula One in 2014, with Yas Marina Circuit as soon as possible.
“What is very clear is the outstanding relationship we have with Richard Cregan and his team at Abu Dhabi Motorsport Management; and a committed combined will to find an alternative solution that fits for all.
“V8 Supercars and ADMM will announce any new arrangements as soon as they are decided.”
The V8 Supercar season opens with a pre-season test day for all teams at Sydney Motorsport Park on February 16, then the amazing Clipsal 500 in Adelaide from February 28 – March 3.

| Kern County Raceway Park has added a SRL Southwest Tour date on September 7, 2013 NASCAR Sanctions New Smyrna, Orlando | 1-18-2013- Spoiler:
- Paul Schaefer/NASCAR wrote:
- Florida is the birthplace of NASCAR and Friday afternoon, two marquee tracks in the state joined the NASCAR family.
NASCAR and track officials announced New Smyrna Speedway and Orlando Speedworld will be sanctioned tracks in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series in 2013.
New Smyrna is a half-mile banked paved oval near New Smyrna Beach, Fla. – 25 minutes south of Daytona – and Orlando is a .375-mile banked paved oval east of the city.
Super Late Models will be NASCAR Division I at both facilities. Speedworld operates on Friday nights and New Smyrna on Saturday nights.
Representing NASCAR at the Friday announcement at New Smyrna Speedway were Jim France, NASCAR vice chairman and executive vice president; George Silbermann, NASCAR vice president, regional and touring series; and Bob Duvall, NASCAR senior director, business development. They were joined by New Smyrna general manager Terry Roberts, Orlando track operator Ozzy Moya, and Robert Hart, who owns both tracks.
“Sanctioning New Smyrna Speedway and Orlando Speedworld is important to our NASCAR Home Tracks program,” Duvall said. “Partnering with two well-established race tracks in central Florida is energizing the local racing community.
“These tracks are known for entertaining competition among top-notch drivers,” Duvall said. “With NASCAR, they have a new platform for recognition on local, state and national levels. Track owner Robert Hart created mainstays for weekly racing in Florida. We look forward to working with him and officials at both tracks.”
Hart represents the second generation of his family’s ownership of the facilities.
“We’ve enjoyed longtime friendships with folks at NASCAR,” Hart said. “My dad (the late) Clyde Hart was thinking about this 15 years ago. Now is the time to do it, and I have a feeling our new relationships are going to work out really well.”
Moya operates Orlando Speedworld via lease from the Hart family. The two tracks will work together under the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series banner.
“We spent the past year reviving and improving Lakeland (Fla.) Dragstrip, and we’re proud of what we’ve done there in a short period of time,” Moya said. “We plan to do the same with Orlando Speedworld and renew its status as one of Florida’s premier short tracks. This is a great opportunity and it’s generating a lot of excitement.
“My parents came to America from Cuba. They came here and worked hard for success,” Moya said. “I’m following their path. Part of our promotions will be aimed at creating new race fans in central Florida’s Hispanic community.”
David Rogers of Orlando, Fla., won the 1994 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national championship at a former central Florida paved track. His undefeated season of 22 wins in 22 starts is legendary in NASCAR short-track racing. The 40-year racing veteran is excited about returning to NASCAR racing.
“Obviously I like it,” Rogers said of the new era. “This is good for our tracks and for NASCAR. The racers will benefit from the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. They’re going to find out how important weekly racing is to NASCAR. This will work out well.”
With their Division I designation, NASCAR-licensed Super Late Model drivers are eligible to compete for NASCAR Whelen All-American Series championships at the track, state and national level.
The track operators will designate support classes as NASCAR Divisions II-V and each will compete for points in the NASCAR Finalist program. The program brings added recognition to support division drivers.
Entering its 32nd season, the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series is NASCAR’s national championship program for weekly short track auto racing. More than 50 tracks throughout the United States and Canada participate. Asphalt Late Model driver Lee Pulliam, 24, of Semora, N.C., won the 2012 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national championship. Milliron buys Mansfield Motorsports Park | 1-18-2013- Spoiler:
- Lou Whitmore/Mansfield News/Journal wrote:
- Local businessman Grant Milliron purchased the former Mansfield Motorsport Speedway LLC Friday morning at sheriff’s sale for $800,000.
The 177.86 acres went up for auction at 10 a.m. during the Richland County Sheriff's sale at the sheriff’s office. The starting bid was $308,827, the amount the county was owed in past-due property taxes.
With the sale, former track owner Mike Dzurilla lost six parcels listed as Mansfield Motorsports Speedway LLC, including the banked oval racetrack, grandstand, press boxes, concession stands and part of the parking area.
However, Dzurilla retains ownership of two adjacent parcels that are current on taxes — 2.8 acres purchased in 2002 under the name Tatra Management Corp. That space contains offices and facilities to build race cars, along with 90 acres he purchased in 2007 under Piper Road LLC, with intentions to develop a drag strip.
The portion sold Friday is viable for use on its own as a racetrack business, according to Richland County delinquent tax collector Matt Finfgeld and Assistant Prosecutor Steve Wildermuth.
Milliron said he bought the track for the real estate but he hopes to find someone to operate the facility as a racetrack.

| NASCAR considering European races | 1-18-2013- Spoiler:
- Christian Sylt/Autoweek wrote:
- NASCAR has revealed that it would consider hosting exhibition races in Europe to boost the profile of stock-car racing in the region.
European racing is dominated by single-seaters such as Formula One, as well as touring cars, while some of the most popular stock-car series there take place on dirt tracks. George Silbermann, NASCAR's vice president of regional and touring series, says that the purpose of hosting races in Europe would be to build up interest in the market.
“NASCAR would consider future exhibition race opportunities in Europe as part of a broader strategy of promoting stock-car racing in a region and supporting existing efforts like our Euro Racecar NASCAR Touring Series, which is about to embark on its second season,” Silbermann told Autoweek.
NASCAR's involvement with Euro Racecar explains its desire to rev-up European interest in stock-car racing.
The series was created in 2009 by the French motorsports management firm Team FJ Group. It uses NASCAR-inspired cars which have 400-hp V8 engines and are built by Chevrolet, Dodge and Ford. They are adapted specifically for European circuits and race in the U.K., France, Italy and Spain, with the series headlined by events at Brands Hatch, Le Mans and Monza. Euro Racecar caught NASCAR's eye and early last year was designated one of the sanctioning body's official touring series.
“NASCAR's philosophy has evolved over the years, from the NASCAR exhibition race model of the 1990s -- when we ran several races in Japan -- to the more recent model we implemented beginning with Mexico,” said Silbermann.
“The prime difference being that the NASCAR national series races staged in Mexico City nearly a decade ago were part of a broad strategy of promoting stock-car racing in that country. The results are clear today, with a healthy NASCAR Toyota Mexico Series having just completed its seventh season under the NASCAR banner. The series boasts close racing, strong car counts, record crowds, and the fifth new oval circuit in the country having just been completed in Chihuahua.”
Silbermann said that exhibition races in Europe would be hosted “along similar lines,” though he did not say where they might take place.
Hosting international NASCAR races is not a new idea. Long before the exhibition races of the 1990s, NASCAR raced in Europe under the stewardship of its co-founder, Bill France Sr. In 1955, seven years after the first NASCAR race, France arranged for several stock cars, known as the “White Ghosts,” to be transported to Europe where they raced in existing events to help promote interest in the sport. It may not be long before history repeats itself.
As much as i would love to see NASCAR in Europe with a race or 2 with Cup at a track such as Monza or Spa or the short layout at LeMans or one of ovals if it got updates. I just don't see it happening at the moment.

Since then, other than their 37 car in 09, and their 55 last year, they have missed exactly 2 races with Kvapil, 1 with Gilliland and 1 with Tony Ave. EGR basically saved a current 3 car team, lol.

The seven-round Dunlop Series kicks off at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide in late February before taking in Barbagallo, Townsville, Queensland Raceway, Winton, Bathurst and Homebush.
“Since I was 12, I’ve always been interested in it,” Stoner told the official Clipsal 500 Adelaide race program of V8 Supercars.
“It was always my plan during my whole career to drive a V8.
“It’s now the new chapter in my career but I have to be realistic and see if we’re capable of doing anything.”
Stoner’s Holden Commodore VE is currently being prepared in Triple Eight’s Banyo, Queensland, workshop alongside the outfit’s fleet of Car of the Future V8 Supercars Championship entries.

Not so fast.... not official! Stoner Extinguishes Media Firestorm | 1-20-2013- Spoiler:
- V8SC PR wrote:
- Two-time World MotoGP Champion Casey Stoner has extinguished a media firestorm claiming he has announced that he will race in V8 Supercars this year.
A newspaper report using dated quotes from Stoner suggest that Stoner had made his decision ‘official’, but that is not the case. Stoner’s comments have been traced back to numerous articles printed last year.
Stoner is yet to agree or announce any plans on his future, having just returned from Christmas holidays with his young family.
“Don’t believe everything you read,” Stoner tweeted this afternoon. “Haven’t decided what I’m doing yet, of corse (sic) V8 Supercars is on the cards. Will let you know when I do!”
Speculation has long insisted that Stoner will compete in the Dunlop Series – the feeder category to V8 Supercars – with the Red Bull Racing team of Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes.
Whilst discussions have been held and widely reported, an official announcement is still to be made.
Stoner is yet to be entered in the Dunlop Series and whilst he has tested in Jamie Whincup’s Championship winning V8 Supercar at Queensland Raceway it was not classified as an official test.
Should Stoner choose to continue his motorsport career in V8 Supercars it will be officially announced by him sometime before the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide at the end of the month, the first event in 2013 for the Dunlop Series.

| Shane Van Gisbergen to drive the #97 Tenko Autosports Holden Commodore this year in V8's with VIP Pet Foods? as the sponsor. Speedcafe | Shane Van Gisbergen Confirms Tekno Autosports Drive | 1-23-2013- Spoiler:
- Grant Rowley/SpeedCafe wrote:
- Shane van Gisbergen has confirmed that he will compete in the 2013 V8 Supercars Championship, driving for Tekno Autosports.
The New Zealand star, who made the shock announcement last year that he would quit the sport in favour of a quieter life in his home land, has reversed his decision and will continue in Australia’s premier motorsport category, driving for the Gold Coast-based Holden Commodore team.
Van Gisbergen will compete under the #97 – a number that he carried during his junior racing.
The news is to be made public in Australia during tonight’s Seven Network’s news bulletins, however, New Zealand’s 3 News station has published vision and comment of the story.
In the interview at Tekno’s Yatala base in Queensland, van Gisbergen says that he wasn’t enjoying himself last year and he was looking for a change.
“Last year things weren’t going well and I wasn’t comfortable and I wasn’t enjoying myself,” he said.
“I needed to get away, have a think about where I wanted to be and what I wanted to do in life.
“I had a good break over Christmas, and here I am. It’s pretty exciting about what’s going to happen and I’m glad to be here. (Tekno) have given me a great opportunity in great cars. It’s a great opportunity but I’m looking forward to getting into it and getting onto it.”
The news is likely to receive some criticism though, given the hype and publicity surrounding the ‘sabbatical’ that he claimed he was taking from the sport.
But while there may be criticism, it is good news for the sport as it retains one of its genuine racing talents.
Having driven for Stone Brothers Racing for six years, van Gisbergen finished with a best overall finish of fourth in 2011, which included two race wins (Hamilton and Hidden Valley).
Last year, he finished sixth overall in the championship having announced the week leading into the season finale that he would take a break from the sport. Much fanfare was created by his departure, with all the drivers signing his race bonnet prior to Sunday’s final race.
Since Sydney, he has competed in selected drift and rally events. He has already confirmed that he will compete in the New Zealand SuperTourers title, plus other selected motorsport activities.
